It’s been said we lose half of our close friends every seven years and replace them with new relationships.
In our early years we made friends with the people in our class, who we played sports with, or who we were neighbors with. We didn’t have much choice in choosing. It was usually by default.
As we get older, this changes. We want to choose who we spend our time with more carefully, and (generally) with choice and more opportunity to meet people, comes fear. Fear of being rejected, fear of not fitting in, fear of judgement.
