Have you ever been with someone when they were really going through something? I mean REALLY going through something. Whether it was that they were grieving a loss of some kind, navigating an emotional challenge, or even going through a personal transformation and you were with them as their source of support. This situation shows up in friendships, with spouses/partners, at work and in parenting. Basically, it’s in every aspect of life. So, how do you be that pillar of support and guidance for someone while still allowing them the “space” to walk their difficult journey on their own?
It’s called “Holding Space.” It means being there for someone without judging them, making them feel like they are not doing it right or trying to impact the outcome. It means opening your heart to someone without judgement and control and it is one of the greatest gifts you can give to another person. And it’s not something that is only for coaches, health care workers, teachers or parents. It is something we ALL can do for each other even if with strangers who strike up a conversation as we are riding the train to work.
Every day is an opportunity to hold space for people around you.
Come with us today and find out HOW to do it and create the space for anyone, including yourself.
