It is safe to say that we have all felt overwhelmed, overburdened or stressed out at times. Maybe life has gotten too complicated or you have taken on more than you can comfortably handle and you are in full-on freak out mode. How does life look when you are in that stressed-out place? Right, it looks stressed out! How can you bring yourself back to your place of resource and your own peace of mind during those moments?
First, breathe. Seriously, just breathe. That’s right. It is amazing how many of us hold our breath when we are stressed! This is quite common and only adds to the feelings of stress as your body wonders what’s up and increases your heart rate to keep up with your emotions. Schedule 5-minute intervals throughout your day for you to consciously connect with your breath and get grounded.
Exercise and getting enough sunlight are also important ways to keep your calm going strong. Exercise is one of the best things you can to for your body and your mind. Commit to 20-30 minutes of cardio each day to bring on a happy balance of serotonin and endorphins. Your brain will thank you!
Cultivating a sense of gratitude is also a great way to develop peace of mind. There is always, always something you can be grateful for! Train your mind to seek those things out on a regular basis. Even in those tough stressful moments, ask yourself “What’s great about this?” Watch how your mood shifts and even your perception on your situation.
